Turned, Carved and Painted

jer turned, carved and I painted these pieces. The smaller one reminds me of a sea urchin.

Went to a woodturning social last night, had barbecued ribs and chicken from one of the local restaurants, was sooooo good, but the highlight of the night was the Bluegrass band. Wow, they were awesome! A family of 7, Mom, Dad and 5 kids, so talented. They played so fast on the fiddle and the banjo that I thought I saw smoke. At one time the kids were playing the fiddle all together and everyone of them kept up. I'm thinking the youngest was 8 and the oldest 20.

Back Away From the Tree!

There not very big but they have lots of meat. Love MANGOES! My Mom use to hoard mangoes, peel, freeze and have them all year. I have inherited the trait. I think I'm getting peeling palm. I already have the shape.

Hialeah Park

This is a photo of my Mom & Dad at Hialeah Park after WWII, this is my favorite photo of them. My parents moved to Florida in 1945 and rented a house from a man that was a well known horse trainer and owner. Coming from Kansas he thought Miami was a tropical paradise. I was borned and raise in Miami. I like to visit other places but don't think I could ever live anywhere else.

It is very sad to see Hialeah Park now adays, the horse stalls have been torn down, and it is in such bad shape. I use to take my kids there to watch the jockeys practice, went to a few antique and classic car shows. To watch the flamingos, that was such a treat for me. I would think, if enough people got there creative juices flowing, someone could think of something.
Flamingos use to fly wild, but I guess there feathers were so desireable that people used them in hats and clothing etc. The other photo was taken at Flamingo Gardens, here in South Florida. Just thought I'd throw that photo in. I wonder if I could get into Hialeah Park to photo the Flamingos there??????

Very Funny

Fennel/foeniculum vulgare- A hardy perennial found growing wild in warmer temperate zones.

Weeded this weekend, felt good to get one section out of the way. It's good to have a blog to write when you plant, when you weed, when you fertilize etc. I need that just to keep up.

Found a place for my trellis, I think it looks beautiful. I am now collecting branches for a harbor.
The middle photo - an unusual moth, when the wings were closed I thought it was a dead leaf or a tomato that had been mangle.
The third photo - my rose garden- can't believe how many roses that are growing.
Throughout the yard I have places that I have in remembrance of a loved one. My rose garden is my mother, she loved her roses and flowers, was always competing with my sister for who had the most roses. It was always close. I think we do now. he he.
My Mom loved poetry and when we would say good-bye she would say "See you in the Spring Peter Rabbit, (we heard all the adventures of Peter Rabbit) so I have a few rabbits in the garden as well.. The statue is of Spring, around the statue are herbs and stuff.

Rodney & Wonderbot/wally

My sons mailbox (right) he also made a easel for an artist friend (Rodney & Wonderbot) he is so creative. His neighbors never know what he will come up with next. Him and his wife and kids go out on bulk day and collect stuff, I guess he gets it honestly.

More inspiration

Love these photos! This was taken when Jer and I went away for our anniversary a few years ago. Talk about inspiration. No TV, no phones, great meals, history, bicycles and picnic baskets with lunch, oak trees and horseshoe crabs.

Roses/Cilantro

My roses are loving the sun. I don't do much, I fertilize once in awhile, and always cut above the five leaf stem. The plant with the little white flowers-cilantro, I planted a cilantro plant about 4 months ago, and another one started growing in with the roses, and all over the yard. This cilantro has fine leaves like the fennel.

Inspiration

Only A Dream

In A Dream!

Thought I'd throw in a nose and a foot. I like stuff around the house, that way I don't have to have any man or beast pose for me. The painting in the one photo is of our son- when he was around 3, in a race car, painted by my mother.

Finally got a photo of the trellis that I made. Really not sure where to put it yet. Jerry chopped down an old dead tangerine tree, had him save the parts, also cut back the bougainvillea, lots of good parts there. Now that I know how to use a drill there is all kinds of possibilities, have to practice on my hammering. When making a trellis you need to have vertical and horizontal lines, but not an even amount, just like a painting, a woodturning or anything you design.
Jerry is working on a masterpiece, won't take a picture until it is finished, but gotta tell ya, it's lookin gooooood.
