Rocky

What a personality, almost human.
I usually don't paint dogs, but Rocky wasn't any dog.
First time I met Rocky, I had to paint a painting of him. Took several photos of him, the problem was, Rocky had cancer at one time and the doctors had to remove part of his jaw. As a painter I had to do, "plasinters surgery" (painters surgery) and paint in his upper lip. Had to abstract it alittle, so I made the tile and background abstract.

Butterflies

This is a photo of my granddaughter, Alex (she is now 12, almost 13) with my friend, Linda's grandson, Chase. Alex and Chase go to the same school, but haven't seen each other since this picture was taken. They will meet when school starts because they are both in the honor society.
Chase was inspired by our blog, hope this doesn't ruin his image.
Alex is now terrified of butterflies, hope she doesn't read this blog.
I don't think anyone will recognize her because of the sunglasses. This picture will have to go into next years yearbook.

Horses- SAY WHAT?

St. Johns/Mayport Ferry, Florida

While driving back from a workshop in Myrtle Beach, we spend the night in Amelia Island, look for sharks teeth, then the next morning venture home. Love to take the St. Johns ferry (very short, but worth taking). It is the only remaining public auto ferry in Florida. It transports cars and pedestrians across the St. Johns river between Fort George Island to Coastal Jacksonville Village. My favorite bird, the pelican is always there to greet ya. The traffic director always has a smile and a nice greeting too.
This photo is the opposite of July 22 post, dominance - straight line. Notice echoing shapes. Notice the triangles in the palm tree and fence echoing the same shape as the ferry machinery?

Dominance- most important to the principles of design/One big shape, color, direction, etc. As per July 3rd post.

Creativity Test

For those that logged onto the "Right Brain-Left Brain Test", yesterdays post, will understand why I love this photo.

Would like to change the color, maybe an orange and lavender, something that is as quirky as the photo.

Have to start posting Jer's woodturning pieces, have asked him to write something, we will see, keep you posted. The first show is in October. He has done some really nice pieces.

Right Brain/Left Brain Test

Take the test-Are you Left or Right Brained
I guess I live in a Fantasy World, but I can snap out of it if I want, but who would want to.

http://www.wherecreativitygoestoschool.com/vancouver/left_right/rb_results.pl

Stop and smell the roses, it is amazing how much stuff is out there to see.

I love shape and color, I try to incorporate these elements in most of my photos and paintings.

My Left Brained friends can't figure out why I would want a photo of round cylinders. Couldn't help myself, I spotted the truck while driving to Ruby Falls. Traffic was busy, I had to maneuver to get behind the cylinders. Grabbed my camera and asked my grandson to take several photos, his right brain took over and understood what I wanted, after a little coaching he took 4 nice shots.

  • Shape - Curved, Angular, Rectangular

  • Balance with shapes - Small/Dark, Large/Light

Red Bird

Found the photo of my little red bird /Painting posted- July 3rd Titled "Red Bird" .

When I was in the mountains last week she came back but was
Much to busy to look my way.

I have a lot to say
and am much to busy to look your way
You have been gone much to long
Why would I even think to look Your way
Went to my feeder and it was bare
and I was in much despair
had to go elsewhere
to find my food
and had babies
but you did not care
Now your gone again
and you probably won't be back
so that's why I turned
so what do you think of that

We're Back

We're Back-

What did I do before GPS, although sometimes I don't agree with her, she tells me to proceed to the designated route, that irritates me cause sometimes I can't find that route. Another bad thing, people won't learn how to read maps. I love maps! I asked my grandson to look on the map and tell me where we were, "I don't know how to read a map". maybe I didn't either at 17.

I remember when my son was a teenager and thought we were lost, I told him "no we are not lost we are right here", that made him feel better and he went back to sleep.

Another Tree

This is a photo of a maple tree in Georgia. We stopped for a picnic, couldn't help myself, had to get out the camera.

I have always loved trees, could climb before I could walk. This looks like a nice climber, didn't dare.

Carolina

Well, here I am in the Carolinas and this is my view! Got my grandson to come up with me and Betty. Betty is our Ausie, who just received a really short hair cut. She is a good travelier. Had a busy day today. The weather is really nice and we're a chillin. The dog and CJ are past out, too much mountain air I guess.

More Stuff-Woodblocks and Printing Block

Thought this greeting card was really neat, couldn't pass it up. Now all I need is a printing press.

If there is some stuff out there to collect, I WILL collect it.
Here we have some woodblocks.
I bought a Woodblock starter kit from Speedball, haven't got up the nerve to use it yet.
Surimono just click on Surimono and it "explans it to you Lucy" Check it out.
Yes, that is a fireplace, I was born and raised in Miami and I get cold, plus it looks marvelous. When we built the studio, that was one thing I really wanted, and in the summer, it is a place for my bird/candle, thingy.

Moon Over the Everglades

Moon Over the Everglades
This was the view this morning, 6am. Well not exactly, I took the photo and it didn't look as beautiful as it did in person. Put it in the computer, brought up Microsoft Picture It and look what happened! Just couldn't leave it at that, kidda like the color lavender, really like orange but it wasn't as purrrrrrty as I thought it should be. What do you think?

The Statue of Liberty

This is a photo taken around the time of world war 2. Have to get it fixed professionaly. Hope you enjoy.
Visited her before 911, was wonderful, went up into the crown. As I was climbing the stairs my Dad called from Miami, asking where I was. I was about half way up at the time and shared with him what it was like. Something I'll never forget. She is really beautiful...... Thanks to our NY friends for showing us around NY.

Red Bird

While I was visiting North Carolina, this female Cardinal would perch herself outside and look in the window. It was like she was wondering why we were there. I really think she was looking at her reflection in the glass, worried that another bird was going to get into HER bird feeder.
I just had to paint her. I had the picture, so I didn't want to make her realistic, so I put a little weight on her and a little bit serious, had to put her bird feeder in there too..
Vertical lines dominate (echoing shapes) in this painting, so it is nice to see a horizontal.
